I have made a Q&A with the talented jewellery designer, Maria Black, which I am excited to share with you guys.
I have been a fan of Maria Black Jewellery for many years. I wear a lot of her jewelleries and think that they are edge and beautiful at the same time.
About Maria Black:
Maria Black founded her own jewellery brand, Maria Black Jewellery when she was at the age of 32. Maris has lived in London from summer 2010 to December 2015. Maria is half Irish and half Danish by origin. She has been working in the jewellery industry for several years before starting her own brand.
Maria has a love for London, which is her second home.
Pssst : What most people don’t know… Maria Black is one of the two Danish Jewellery brand which is available in the prestigious retailers; Colette, Browns, Opening ceremony, Net a Porter, Luisa via Roma, Boutique 1, Barney’s, and Liberty’s.
Below is the Q&A I did with Maria Black abou there life, inspiration, and goals in life.
- Q: What is your current project that you are working on?
I am currently wrapping up a piercing pop up we did in our flagship store in Copenhagen, which I hope to make permanent in the near future, and am now working on exclusive designs for Net a Porter to launch in September. I’m also preparing for a pop up event in ESTNATION in Tokyo in September plus designing 2 new collections. Multi tasking is the name of the game in my business;)
- Q: How did you end up doing what you do today?
I started working in a jewellery shop in Ibiza in my early 20’s, caught the fever and ended up training as a goldsmith 2 years later. After finishing my degree there was such interest in my designs that I, almost by accident, started my brand and then things just took off. When I started nobody was doing fashion forward designs in silver with the kind of edge I’ve become known for, so I had the whole playing field to myself.
- Q: Did you set goals about where you wanted to be?
First I just wanted to pay my rent, but as you develop so does your ambitions. The more succes I had, the more ambitious I became. I was so happy the first time I saw my designs in Colette. It was such an honour to see my stuff next to the designers I admire the most. I have to keep reinvent and dream up new ways of designing and wearing jewellery all the time and luckily that is my passion.
- Q: What inspires you in life?
Everything inspires me, visuals more than words. The gentle curve of fabric falling or the geometric pattern in Arabic art. Once you train yourself, you see potential designs translating from the strangest of objects.
- Q: What motivates you?
I love learning new things so my motivation comes from bettering myself and doing things better than the last time.
- Q How do you take care of your body?
Copenhagen stairs ! I run up and down stairs all day every day so I hardly need more training. But to be fair I should probably drink more so I exercise my arms too 😉
- Q: What is your food item/s of indulgence?
Bisquits… I have a particular weakness for LU bisquits. It’s a problem.
- Q: What is your beauty secret/tip?
I recently started facials with Anita Falslund and ‘oh my’ they work, she’s amazingly good! She got me on this derma roller plus insane moisture serums from LING skincare, they have worked wonders in between her facials. Stay clear of fillers and botox. I don’t mind wringels, they are beautiful. It’s more important to have a clear complexion and glowing skin.
- What is your next goal?
I love the motto work hard/play hard. I just need to find the right balance as work hard seems to have overtaken my life. So my goal is to spend more time with my loved ones, travel more and try new things.
