Meet the entrepreneurial and business woman, Serena Guen. Serena established Suitcase Magazine in 2012, which is the ultimate traveller magazine in both print and digital. I find travel inspiration Suitcase Magazine and I have great respect and admiration for Serenas work.
I got the chance to meet the smart and travel-trendsetter Serena in London for a chat.
Below is a Q&A I did with Serena about her inspiration, motivation, and goals with Suitcase Magazine:
- Q: What is your vision with Suitcase Magazine and Media?
I want to create the best, most exciting, most insightful travel magazine and use our network of expert storytellers and content creators to help brands reach new audiences and cement their loyal ones.
- Q: How did you end up doing what you do today?
I moved to Paris to study when I was 19. Living in a city was so exciting but I felt like the guidebooks gave me such a superficial experience of the place. I ended up writing my own guides to it and then to other places that I knew by asking my coolest friends or people that I met. After a couple of years of doing this I realised that I wasn’t the only one who wanted something more from travel media outlets, so I decided to start my own. It was extremely difficult but I managed to launch a first edition within nine months. The media industry is changing a lot so I knew it needed to look different to all the other magazines out there – I made it look like a coffee table book filled with beautiful, timeless content. Now alongside our quarterly print magazine, we now have our website which is updated daily. We launched our agency SUITCASE Media this year as a natural next step – we encountered so many brands along the way who needed help with content marketing and we could add a lot of value.
- Q: Did you set goals about where you wanted to be?
The only goal I set was to create the best product and agency that I could, that goal is ever evolving and means that hopefully both companies can only get better.
- Q: What inspires you in life?
I’ve worked a lot with Syrian refugees through a campaign I started in aid of Unicef’s Next Generation called #CookForSyria and I am extremely inspired by the resilience of people.
- What motivates you?
The knowledge that the only boundaries in life are the ones that I create in my head.
- Q: How do you take care of your body?
Moisturise a lot, try to eat as naturally and seasonally as I can, do pilates and yoga, read, take baths and try to laugh as much as I can.
- What is your food item/s of indulgence?
Ice cream. I eat it at least once a week…
- What is your beauty secret/tip?
Vitamin mouth sprays – I just discovered them and it’s so much easier than taking supplements.
- What is you next goal with Suitcase?
Become the number one go-to for travel planning for modern female travellers.
Get inspired with Serene Guen and her traveling empire, Suitcase the Magazine and Media.
